While teaching and serving as chaplain in secondary schools, and in the course of facilitating relationship and personal growth seminars, I discovered my love for one-on-one interaction with individuals seeking counseling. This led me to pursue an MA in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology followed by a year-long internship as a practicing psychotherapist with Seattle Therapy Alliance.
Having lived in Africa and Europe as well as in the United States, I've developed a first-hand awareness of cross-cultural and multicultural issues which also informs my work. Currently I am extending my training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and, in particular, Object Relations Theory, a psychoanalytic theory of the mind and human development.
Issues I work with include:
- Depression
- Anxiety and fear
- Emotional trauma
- Chronic emotional and/or behavioral patterns
- Life changes
- Grief and loss
- Food issues
- Sexuality issues
- Low self-esteem
- Domestic violence
- Addictions
- Marriage and relationship issues
- Aging and older adult issues
- Poverty and marginalization issues
- Multicultural issues
- Third culture kids and adults issues
- Group process work
